SWSA Third Round F3F League Results

After a rather disappointing December due to the weather, January looked a little more promising. With Clear skies forecast and the wind direction putting us on the VR 98 slope it looked all set for a good competition.

With a reasonable breeze on the VR slope the course was quickly up and the evergreen John Phillips got events underway with a 45.10 which turned out to be good enough to win the round.  Greg Dakin was second in the round with 48.72 just nosing in front of Joel West who flew a 48.83.

Conditions were starting to improve and Joel West took the next round with a 42.60. Tony Livingstone and Graeme Mahoney were just behind Joel with a 44.76 and 45.20 respectively.

Things were starting heat up in round three where Joel won the round again with 40.95 which turned out to be the fastest time or the day. Greg was right behind Joel with a 41.60 just piping Tony’s 41.67.

The wind was starting to cross a bit as more west came into it and drop a little. Mark Redsell made the best of it flying a 45.49 which just beat John’s 45.84. Simon Thornton took third spot with a 46.54.

And with that the wind dropped and what little there was had a lot more west in it. With not enough time to move the course to the Ice Cream slope that meant the day was brought to a premature end.

A big thanks to everyone who helped out. Especially Mark Treble who put his hand up to be buzzer supremeo,  Joel and his dad who sorted the flying order out for me and Clayton for collecting the money plus all those who helped get the course up.

It was a day for close times and the finish was even closer, It was probably no surprise that Joel West won the competition two wins and the FTD but the margin of victory was small. John Phillips was just behind Joel by 0.13 of a point. Tony Livingstone was rewarded for his consistence with a well deserved third place.

Full results are below and look forward to seeing you all soon.

Third round of the SWSA F3F Winter League is ON

Hi All

Well most of the weather forecast are good for Sunday with it putting us on the VR slope at the moment. One or two are just giving an outside chance of flurry or snow but otherwise okay so I will call the competition  on.

We will aim to meet 09:00 to 09:30 at the Wrecker Car Park, but keep an eye on the posts tomorrow if there is change in wind direction it might just shift to the Ice Cream Slope and I will notify you all.

The only downside is that the numbers are a little low and with Saturday night being one of the coldest this year I am not sure if some people might not want get out of bed in the morning plus some parts of the country are being forecast with a deluge of snow tomorrow. The names I have to date are below but please lads let me know if you intend to fly but aren't booked in or are having second thoughts as I wouldn't want some of the pilots to travel so far and then find we don't have enough for a competition.

For those booked in I will contact later tomorrow just to confirm numbers  as I don't want you to have wasted journey on Sunday, but hopefully it will be good news.

All the best

Third Round SWSA F3F Winter League

Hi All

This Sunday 18 January will be the third round of the SWSA F3F winter league. I will make a call Friday if the competition is on and if so more details of meeting times.

If I can have entries by Saturday I would be grateful as it helps with or organising the flying order and get things running on the day. However, if you wake up Sunday morning and decide at the last minute you want to fly you will more than welcome, but you might find yourself early in the flying order!

If you are thinking about having a go in F3F the winter league is a great place to start, it's all pretty informal and don't worry if you haven't got the latest state of the art carbon fibre dream machine to have a go.  Sure it nice to have but it is more important that you have a go at standing in the centre of a course and trying to fly a kilometre as fast as you can with what ever plane you have got.  Better to find out flying a foamie that F3F is for you than spending thousands only to find out you have made an expensive mistake!

Looking forward to seeing you all Sunday
